DOWNS grew up in Oaxaca, Mexico, and in Minnesota,
USA. The daughter of a Scottish American father and Mixtec
Indian mother, Downs'life and artistry reflects her mixed
parentage and bi-nationalism. She's become an accomplished
singer, composer, and diva to those with high regard for
the Mexican-American/Latino artistic renaissance. Downs
jams with Brazilian, Cuban, Chilean, Mexican, and American
musicians... the music is rootsy, underlined by Latin Jazz,
with a penchant for politically progressive lyrics couched
