Xispas is seeking professional writers, photographers, and artists from throughout Aztlán and across the U.S., to contribute articles, reports, poems, essays, reviews, artworks and photographs to the Xispas web log. If you are inspired by the Xispas project and find yourself in general agreement with the materials we present - please consider an active role with us as a content provider. We seek writings and artworks that focus on cultural and political themes relevant to the Chicano/a community at large - sophisticated expressions that are timely, well thought out, and conceived with an international audience in mind. MENTAL MENUDO Xicano Artists Collective

Mental Menudo is mass meeting of Xicano artists, art lovers and educators. At the menudo, all topics pertaining to art are up for discussion. Always intellectually stimulating and educational, the menudos are the brainchild of longtime L.A. artist Gilbert "Magu" Lujan. Recent meetings have grown to include dozens of artists young and old who practice a variety of artistic disciplines. Artists, photographers, film makers, writers, gallery owners, community activists and many others have been attending the menudos - and all are interested in finding ways to make art more accessible to the people of Los Angeles. Everyone is encourage to attend the mental menudos - spread the word and bring some friends.

CHICANO: Pronouncing Diversity is a Mental Menudo exhibition celebrating the artworks of over forty established and emerging Chicano artists from across the greater Los Angeles area. Curated by Magu, this important exhibit runs until November 4th, 2006. [ Read more ]
